Pace University – Undergraduate Pathways

The Global Pathways program at Pace University offers international students the opportunity to follow an excellent pathway program leading to an undergraduate graduate degree from a top world ranked university. Located in one of the most exciting cities in the world, Pace University is a top choice for international students!

The undergraduate Pathways curriculum is a combination of college level English preparation taught by Pace University’s  ELI department with general academic coursework with mainstream local American students on campus.  Once you meet the progression requirements to exit the Pathways program, you’ll be transferred into your Bachelor’s degree programs at University of Pace as a 2nd semester advanced freshman.

English Skills Course Discription

Grammar & Writing

This course is designed to build on developing ideas into well-configured writing in various rhetorical styles. Both writing development and grammatical accuracy are addressed.

 

Reading & Vocabulary

This course is designed to increase reading speed, critically analyze and discuss different types of reading materials and increase reading comprehension. Various reading strategies and vocabulary retention skills are taught to help achieve these goals.

 

Conversation & Listening

This course is designed to improve conversational fluency and listening comprehension. This course targets overall English communication improvement including pronunciation.

 

Pronunciation

This course is designed to improve pronunciation for every day speech and academic presentations. The class focuses on specific sounds, as well as, intonation, stress, and reductions.

 

Vocabulary Building

This course is designed to acquire basic vocabulary and idioms in everyday conversation as well as the basic academic vocabulary required in college or academic settings.  Application of common new vocabulary to speaking and writing and learning how to guess at the meaning of words by context are some of the skills addressed to improve reading ability.

 

Idioms

The course is designed to increase English fluency through the mastery of idioms.

 

Undergraduate Academic Skills– Non Credit Course Description

Academic Study, Research, and Communication Skills

This course simulates a college classroom in order to provide the skills necessary to succeed in an academic setting.  Students write an American-style research paper, learn academic reading and test-taking strategies, and develop their ability to listen and take notes during an academic lecture.  Students work on typical undergraduate projects and use their new skills to organize, research, and deliver academic oral presentations.

 

Academic Reading and Writing

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to college-level reading and writing and to explore issues in American culture.   Students improve their grammar in the context of their own writing.

 

Academic Credit Courses – Pace Undergraduate Course Description

First-Year Seminar: Introduction to University Community

This course will explore the unique aspects of university life by engaging the student in personal discovery through readings, writing and discussion. In addition to the classroom hours, students will participate in co-curricular experiences and civic engagement opportunities.

 

Introduction to Computing
This course will provide students with guided hands-on exercises with a variety of computer-based tools through two hours of structured computer lab. The two hours of lecture and discussion will promote understanding of the fundamental principles of information technology so that students will be prepared for the new systems and tools of the future.

 

Introductory Math Course

This course will be a general education math course requirement taken with mainstream Pace undergraduate students.

EXAMPLE MATH COURSES THAT MIGHT BE CHOSEN:

  • Finite Math: Introduction to linear programming, the corner point and simplex methods for solving linear programs, foundations of finite probability, interpretations of probability, equally-likely outcomes, independent events, conditional probability, Bayes’ theorem, systems of linear equations, mathematics of finance, and mathematical modeling.
  • Precalculus: Precalculus course for students who require additional mathematical background prior to taking MAT 131. Topics include logarithmic and exponential functions, trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, solving triangles, conic sections, solving equations.

 

Introductory Arts or Music Course

This course will be a general education arts or music course requirement taken with mainstream Pace undergraduate students.

EXAMPLE MUSIC COURSE THAT MIGHT BE CHOSEN:

  • Jazz: A study of the historical and musical origins of jazz, and a survey and analysis of the major schools and trends of jazz. The elements of jazz performance are examined, and there will be an in-depth study of historically significant performers and performing groups as a means of understanding the evolution of jazz practice.

 

Speech Communication Course

This course will be a general education communication course requirement taken with mainstream Pace undergraduate students.

EXAMPLE SPEECH COMMUNICATIONCOURSES THAT MIGHT BE CHOSEN:

  • Voice and Diction for Non-Native Speakers: This course is designed for non-native speakers of American English only.  An intensive phonetic approach is used both in the classroom and language laboratory. Those students who do not to meet minimum departmental standards may be referred for further work in the Foreign Accent Clinic.
  • Fundamentals of Speech Communication: A skills approach to teaching the fundamentals of speech communication is used. Various aspects of verbal and nonverbal communication will be covered. The nature of the course will vary according to the needs of the students.

Minimum Entry Requirements to qualify for this program:

NOTE: These are minimum entry requirements only. Satisfying these requirements does not guarantee admission into the Global Pathways program.

  • English language Score – minimum score TOEFL ® 65 iBT or IELTS 6.0
  • Grade Point Average (GPA) : 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale
  • Global Pathways application form
  • Submit all official transcripts, diplomas, and final examination scores from secondary schools and post secondary institutions
  • 2 recommendation letters
  • Personal statement / essay
  • Pace University Financial Affidavit of support form
  • Bank statement with proof of funds

Global Pathways at Northeastern University offers Undergraduate students the flexibility to study on a 1 term, or 2 term, or 3 term Pathways program depending upon the student’s level of English:

Exit Requirements to progress to Pace University’s degree program:

  • Achieving the minimum required GPA and passing the Pace University English competition exam or equivalent to continue with the degree you were admitted to
  • Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale

How to apply

How to apply?

To apply to Northeastern University through Global Pathways is simple and easy!

Please just submit the following required documents to our Northeastern University Global Pathways office:

  • Global Pathways Application Form
  • TOEFL or IELTS score
  • Transcripts and Grades: Original transcripts and supporting grade scale
  • English Translation of Transcripts: Notarized translation of the transcripts
  • Personal Statement: Must include name of the university and title of major that the student is planning to pursue
  • Reference Letters: 2 letters from academic instructors or professors
  • CV / Resume: List work/school history, travel, languages, awards, certificates, volunteer work, and accomplishments
  • Passport Copy
  • Declaration & Certification of Finances Form
  • Bank statement copy: recent statement of no less than the minimum funds required in the Declaration & Certification of Finances Form with an original bank certification, official stamp, notary or other.
