University of Utah - Undergraduate Pathways
The Global Pathways program offers international students the opportunity to pursue undergraduate Bachelors degrees in a variety of fields and majors at a top ranked public US university, the University of Utah.
The undergraduate Pathways curriculum is a combination of college level English preparation taught by University of Utah’s Linguistics department with general academic coursework with mainstream local American students on campus. Once you meet the progression requirements to exit the Pathways program, you’ll be transferred into your Bachelor’s degree programs at University of Utah as a 2nd year Sophomore student.
Undergraduate Global Pathways at University of Utah
- 3 semester term Pathways program (or 12 month Pathways program).
- Earn up to 36 academic credits that can be applied to your degree program.
- Progression to year 2 of University of Utah’s Bachelors degree program.
- Combination of college-level English courses with Pathways cohort, and academic courses for general education requirements with regular American students.

Undergraduate Curriculum at University of Utah
The undergraduate Global Pathways curriculum at University of Utah is a fixed 3 semester terms starting with more English courses in your first term and progressing to more academic courses with mainstream American students through your third term.

* During the first semester, students will select courses from a list of general education courses. During the second and third semester, students will be strongly encouraged to take courses that prepare them for the major and general education requirements to complete their degrees. There may be restrictions/prerequisites for certain classes. Students with higher English proficiency test scores may be able to take Introduction to Expository Composition in Semester 1 instead of Advanced Grammar and Editing Skills and choose three regular academic courses in Semester 2.
Entry Requirements
Minimum Entry Requirements to qualify for this program:
NOTE: These are minimum entry requirements only. Satisfying these requirements does not guarantee admission into the Global Pathways program.
- Minimum Academic level of High School diploma or equivalent. High School student in their final semester may apply to Pathways before graduating from high school.
- Minimum Grade level (GPA) of 2.35 out of 4.0 scale in culmulative high school coursework from grades 9 to 12.
- Minimum English^ score of one of the following: TOEFL 450 PBT / 45 iBT / IELTS 4.5. Kaplan iBT test score also accepted.
^ Conditional Acceptance through Kaplan English school available for students who score below the minimum English level. Kaplan English Center is located on campus at Northeastern University and conditional admission requires completion of minimum 10 weeks of English courses and a minimum Kaplan iBT 45.
US High School Graduates
International students who have studied 3+ years or have graduated from a US high school/American international school must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum 2.6 GPA on 4.0 scale
- Submit an ACT or SAT score
University Transfer students
International university level transfer students must meet the following requirements:
- Have 30+ transferrable credit hours
- Minimum 2.6 GPA on 4.0 scale in your post-secondary coursework
Exit Requirements to progress to University of Utah’s degree program:
- Minimum Grade level (GPA) of 2.5 out of 4.0 scale in cumulative Pathways coursework.
- Completion of University of Utah’s English exam.
- Progression to a 2nd Year Sophomore student at University of Utah starting in Fall or Spring term.

Applications accepted for Global Pathways year round for rolling admission to start dates in Fall, Spring, and Summer term at University of Utah.

How to Apply?
To apply to University of Utah through Global Pathways is simple and easy!
Please just submit the following required documents to our University of Utah Global Pathways office:
Global Pathways Application Form- TOEFL, IELTS or Kaplan iBT score
- Transcripts and Grades: Original transcripts and supporting grade scale
- English Translation of Transcripts: Notarized translation of the transcripts
- Personal Statement: Must include name of the university and title of major that the student is planning to pursue
- Reference Letters: 1 to 2 letters from academic instructors or professors
- CV / Resume: List work/school history, travel, languages, awards, certificates, volunteer work, and accomplishments
- Passport Copy
- Affidavit of Support Form
- Bank statement copy: recent statement of no less than the minimum funds required in the Affidavit of Support Form
If you currently have a US visa, please include copies of the visa page in your passport, I-94 card, and I-20 form.
